Preparing for Your Virtual Session

One of the most important things about therapy is that you feel comfortable enough to talk openly. With virtual therapy there are a few things you can do to help with this.

Find a quiet room (preferably with a locking door)

Knowing that no one can walk in while you are in session can help calm any nerves you might have about having therapy in your home.

Put a sign on the door

Put a simple sign on the door that says “In Session” or “On call”, “On Zoom.” This will help reminder others who might pass the room to be quieter.

Put a fan or white noise machine on loud outside your door.

Having white noise next to your door will make it so people passing by will not be able to hear anything you are saying. You acn use an alexa, a white noise app, a white noise machine or a standing fan on high.

Use headphones.

Using headphones will not only cut down on possibly being overheard, but they will also cut down on possible echos during the session.

Get comfortable

Grab a drink, some paper for notes and find a comfy seat. Your session will be 50 mins long. So, you’ll want to make sure you have everything you need and are sitting somewhere comfortable!
